Located south east of India Gate and North of Humayun Tomb, Purana Qila
stands on the site where ancient city of Indraprastha is believed to have
existed. Initially, the construction of fort started in 1533 by Humayun and
it took 5 years to complete the fort.

After defeating Humayun, Sher Shah Suri, the Afghan King, renamed fort as
Sher Shah and added few few more edifices to the complex.
Inside the Complex
» Qila Kuhna Masjid : This red and white mosque was built by
Sher Shah in 1541. This central portion of the mosque is made up of white
marble and bright red stone.
» Sher Mandal : This two storied pavilion is made of red
sandstone. It is believed that Humayun died in this building.
» Humayun Tomb : Built in 1564, this spectacular monument lies
outside the walls of Old fort. It is said that its design is inspired from
Taj Mahal
