The 238 feet magnificent Qutub Minar stands at the Southern part of the
Capital City. The majestic structure was built by Qutubuddin Aibak, a Muslim
ruler, in the year 1193.The tower is adorn by bands of Inscription and by
four projecting balconies supported by ornamented brackets. It is said that
Qutub Minar was built to celebrate the victory of Mohammed Ghori, the
invader of the Afghanistan, over the Rajputs in 1192. The majestic structure
was partly completed by Qutubuddin Aibak (1192-98) and the rest was
completed by Iltutmish, another Muslim king. The Minar stands in front of
Quwwatul Masjid. It is best example of Indo- Islamic architecture.
Attraction within the Qutub Minar Complex
» Quwwat-ul-Islam-Mosque : This rectangular courtyard was built
by Qutub-Din Aibak and is located north of Minar. It consist of rectangular
courtyard surrounded by cloisters.
» Ala-I Darwaza : The southern gateway of the mosque was
constructed by Al Alau'd-Din Khilji. This is the first building that
employed Islamic principles of construction.
» Tomb of Iltutumish : Built during 1222-36 AD, this plain
square chamber of red sandstone has inscription and geometrical patterns in
Saracenic tradition on the entrances and in the interiors.
» Ala'I Minar : It was made with an intention that it should be
twice the size of Qutub Minar and was located north of the Minar.
