Reviving the history of Rasthrapathi Bhavan
Rashtrapati Bhavan is one of the major buildings in the political catalog of India. It was built by the then
Governor General of India, Edwin Lutyens. In the year 1931, the building was inaugurated as the Viceregal Lodge. Later, when India became republic in 1950, the name was changed as Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Architecture

The official residence of the
President of India - the
Rashtrapati Bhavan was constructed with systematic blend of Western and Indian style of architecture. The red sandstone building encompasses an area of about 4.5 acres of land. It consists of 340 rooms, 37 salons, 18 staircases, 74 lobbies and arcades. The 37 fountains within the area is an added attraction. Durbar Hall, built directly beneath the main dome demands great attention. In addition, the interior of the Bhavan is bedecked with intricate paintings and artifacts.
Tourist Attractions

Along with appreciating the inner complex of
Rashtrapati Bhavan, its worthy to spend some time in the landscaped
Mughal Gardens. It lies to the west of the colonial structure and is an excellent hangout zone for Delhi'ites. Also known as '
Butterfly Gardens' travelers, here, can feast their eyes with butterflies of vibrant color.

Rashtrapathi Bhavan- A venue for prominent ceremonies

In order to explore every nook and corner of
Rashtrapati Bhavan, visitors have to carry a letter of introduction from their embassy and then need to seek permission from the reception office on Raisina Road.
It is a prime location for important events, conducted by Indian States and official departments. These days, the historic mansion is also attracting filmmakers of Bollywood. A popular song 'Desh Rangila' from 'Fanaa'(2006) was shot at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
How to reach Rashtrapati Bhavan, Delhi
Rashtrapati Bhavan is located at the west direction of
Parliament Street. New Delhi Railway Station is the nearest train station, while Indira Gandhi International Airport is the nearest aerodrome.
No direct DTC buses ply over the location and visitors have to hire private cab/auto-rickshaw to reach the President's House. Besides, the nearest metro station at Central Secretariat aid travelers explore the area.
