Built in area of 330 acres, the building is designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens.
Completed in 1929, the edifice was constructed as the official residence of
the Viceroy of India during the British reign. It has an impressive garden,
Mughal garden, which are open to public in February, when the flower blooms.
These days it is the residence of President, the first citizen of India.
This architectural wonder is a blend of Mughal and western style. The
columns built in front of entrance have bells carved in them. It took Rs
12,53,000 to complete the monument. The palace has 340 rooms
It is the venue for all official functions of the President including the
National Award ceremonies. There is a 4th century statue of Gautam Buddha
behind the Presidents chair. The hall served as a museum for several years
until the present venue of the National Museum was constructed.
