Built in 12th century, Jaisalmer was founded by Prince Jaisal, a Krishna
Vanshi Rajput and hence was named after him. The Jaisalmer induces a
vivacious picture of breathtaking and sheen desert. The warmth and the
energy that prevail with the local inhabitants make it into a town with a
special magic. One of the main attractions is the imposing 12th century
Jaisalmer Fort. The exotic Havelis, built by wealthy merchants of Jaisalmer
are yet another interesting aspect of the desert city. The romantic sand
dunes that surround the city have mystical power and the best way of
exploring them and the desert around is by a camel safari.

» Jaisalmer Fort : Located at a distance of 15 Kms on the top
of hill, Jaisalmer fort offers picturesque atmosphere around. The ramparts,
bastions and the long-stretching walls of the fort dazzle gloriously during
early morning and at sunset.
» Jaisalmer Festival : Jaisalmer festival is arranged by
Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC) at the local Poonam
Stadium. Camel rides and camel races are a common sight in the Jaisalmer
festivals. The parade of the gaily-caparisoned camels presents a spectacular
sight. The festival includes competition like characteristic colorful turban
tying competitions of the locals, the camel décor competitions,
tug-of-war and surprisingly a prize for the most impressive moustache.
» Patwon-Ki-Haveli : The Havelis made by Jaisalmer's wealthy
merchants include the Patwon ki Haveli, Salim Singh ki Haveli and Nathmal ki
Haveli. Amongst them he Patwon ki Haveli is the grandest mansion in
Jaisalmer, having ceiling supported by elegantly carved pillars.
» Gadsisar Lake : A rain water lake is an ideal picnic spot and
is famous for boating. It is adorned with an arched gateway.
» Salim Singh-ki-Haveli : Salim Singh Haveli is rich in
architectural wealth and has truly unsurpassed in splendor. The Haveli is
adorned by a blue roof and rows of peacocks below the arched balconies. The
Haveli was once the residence of the Mohta family, ministers of Jaisalmer
rulers.
