Forts of Rajasthan have managed to retain the cultural heritage as well as
the tradition of the state. These forts imbibes the golden past that
Rajasthan once boasted. Two of the main forts in Rajasthan are Amber Fort
and Nahargarh fort.
» Nahargarh
Fort : Nahargarh Fort is the first three forts built by Maharaja
Jai Singh II in 1734. Situated 6 km North West of City Palace, it provides
some stunning views of Jaipur down below the Man Sagar Lake. Many of the old
structures within the fort are in bad condition, except the one added by
Sawai Singh II and Sawai Madho Singh II
» Amber
Palace : Amber fort, formerly the capital of Rajput princes, was
built in 1592 by Maharaja Jai Singh. The fort stands on a hill side, 11 km
from north east of Jaipur. It presents an equisite piece of Rajput
architecture. One can view the beautiful lake through the windows and
balconies that adorn the majestic structure.
An interesting feature is Yajnastambha, a stone column that commemorates an
Asvamedha-Yajna (Sacrifice) performed by Sawai Jai Singh
