Held in February,the
Taj Mahotsav is a festival of conventional Indian art
forms and crafts. The 10 days event include classical dance performances by
leading dance masters and musical recitals by genius, apart from display of
various craft products and cultural shows.
Held as an annual event at Shilpgram , the festival is organized by Uttar
Pradesh Tourism.
The
Taj Festival is indeed a encomium to the legendary skills of masters
and the legends of art, music and cuisine. Not only this, it is also a
amiable peep into the rich inheritance and tradition of this amazing land.
One is easily able to see the influence of Mughal splendor on the
spectacular procession. Bedecked elephants and camels, drum beaters, folk
artists and master craftsmen. all help to recreate a visual delight
reminiscent of the golden era of the Mughal Darbars
Taj Mahotsav also showcases the work of legendary artisans and master
craftsmen breathe life into their exquisite art. Marble inlay apart, the
Festival brings forth an array of other fine crafts as well- wood carvings
from Saharanpur, brass and other metal ware from Moradabad, handmade carpets
of Badohi, the blue pottery of Khurja, the Chikan work of Lucknow.
Agra with
its legendary tradition of exquisite craftmenship is thus the ideal venue
for holding a crafts fair like the
Taj Mahotsav.
Another thing, the Mahautsav is famous for its Food Festival. The exotic
cuisine's and delicacies prepared by some of the oldest exponents and the
typical preparations from the interiors of Uttar Pradesh are mouthwatering.
You can experience the magic of the Mahotsav, especially through the
profusion of folk music and dances of Dundelkhand, 'Nautanki' (Drama),
'Sapera' dance of Rajasthan, Lavani of Maharashtra.
